The Shattered Series consists of five small light boxes with an intricate pattern of shattered glass through which the light shines. Inspired by Anthony McCall’s “Happening”, A Line Describing a Cone, the intent is to produce a high level of engagement and rapture. Small lights on small motors are controlled by proximity sensors which sense the participants waving hand. As studies for a larger sculpture, the Shattered Series explores the technology involved, the patterns of light and the participant’s reaction to it.
